Sarah Lucas ('self-portrait with Knickers') 1994. Photographic self portraits have been an important element of Lucas work since the early 90's. this is one of her pictures apart of a series she created from 1990-1998. In these images, which compliment Lucas sculptural and installation work, Sarah presents an identity which challenges stereotypical representations of gender and sexuality. I chose this as my favourite self portrait because I like the layout of the image and how she's slightly off centre. I also like how the image is dark toned, but the underwear is white so the contrast is dramatic. I also find it appealing that Sarah is tackling stereotypes and wearing a stereotypically masculine outfit. |
Ralph Eugene Meatyard. this photo by Ralph is the most similar to mine and has a very good effect. As he chose to have a subject in the foreground of his picture and he had himself more or less in the background with the camera just like I did. In his image and mine we both also have our cameras visible and we can be seen in the reflection of glass and our second subject I can be seen behind it. |
I like this photo because, I took it by accident but it still uses the rule of thirds. I also quite like the fact its "messy" because it gives more authenticity then my other pictures. Another reason why I prefer this image is because you can't see anyones face.
if I could change this image I would try and even out the view finder. |
